~ What Does Reiki Mean ~

Ki ~ the fundamental life force

The word Reiki is comprised of two Kanji characters, Rei & Ki. Translated into English, Reiki means Universal Life Force Energy.

Reiki can sooth and revitalise, uplift the spirit, encourage positive thinking, boost the immune system, help you to de-stress, cope better with depression.

Reiki is very therapeutic enabling the body to bring itself back to a state of balance and well-being in a holistic and natural way.

Please note that Reiki should not be used in place of medication and or treatment given to you by your Doctor or Health Team

REIKI HEALING

Reiki treatments are very convenient for the patient. There is no need to remove any clothing and treatments can be given with the client either sitting up in a chair or preferably, lying down on a therapy couch. The treatment can work through bandages or plaster casts. A Reiki treatment is very de-stressing and is accompanied by feelings of deep relaxation and well-being. The patient will often feel a sensation of warmth flowing into their body although at times this may manifest itself as a cold or a tingling feeling. Frequently, after a treatment, clients feel as if they have had several hours of very satisfying sleep and feel ready for anything.

The Reiki practitioner does not actually heal anybody. The healer is just a channel through which the Reiki energy can flow from the Universal Source of Light and Love to the person needing Reiki. The Reiki practitioner allows himself or herself to be used as a channel. The person being healed controls the healing process by drawing down the energy that they require in order to meet their needs. The healer will place their hands on various parts of the body, but never touching intimate parts. Reiki energy will decide where it is needed the most. The Reiki energy may direct the healer where to place their hands in order to meet the needs of the person to be healed. Once within the body or aura of the person being healed, the energy is able to move around and to go on helping that person for long after the healing session has finished.

REIKI PRACTITIONERS DO NOT DIAGNOSE

There is no need to know why a client has come to be treated. Reiki treatments can be applied in four different ways depending on the training of the practitioner.

The Hands On treatment is just that the practitioner lays their hands gently on the clients body using a standard twelve hand position each lasting about 5 minutes ~ remembering intimate parts are never touched.

The Hands Off is the same procedure but the practitioner holds their hands just inches away from the body

Intuitive is where the practitioner will only place their hands where the energy is needed most.

Distant Healing can also be carried out ~ this means that you do not have to be in the presence of your Reiki Practitioner

The Client will, subconsciously, take as much or as little of this energy as is required in each position from the practitioner.

When working intuitively with Reiki it is very helpful if the practitioner can focus on the total wellbeing of the client, ignoring any specific outcomes. Knowledge of the client's history or diagnosis will colour this intent and can dissipate the effectiveness of the Reiki energy. In a similar way, a detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology can unfortunately lead the practitioner to focus on specific outcomes from the treatment instead of the client's highest good. An effective Reiki practitioner will get their mind out of the way and allow the energy to direct the proceedings.

A Reiki healer's intent during a treatment should be for the highest good of the client. By not focussing on specific outcomes, the practitioner is able to achieve fuller healing. It does not need to be directed in any way, in fact, it works better if the diagnosis is not known, and working to heal a specific condition can very much limit the effectiveness of a Reiki treatment.

REIKI IS NATURAL AND HAS NO SIDE EFFECTS

One very attractive feature of Reiki is that it is very natural. In using Reiki, you are just following your natural instincts. Think of the situation where you, for example, bang your head or your leg. Your first instinctive action is to grasp the area with your hands. Everyone has some ability to heal in this way.

A Reiki practitioner, as part of the training, is attuned to a specific form of healing energy and can channel this energy in sufficient quantities to affect a significant outcome in the client. Reiki involves the use of no additional equipment other than their hands. This feature makes Reiki a very attractive form of treatment. In a similar way, there are no side effects from a Reiki treatment, other than an improved sense of well being and usually a much sunnier outlook on life.

REIKI PROMOTES WELLBEING ON ALL LEVELS

Reiki can work not only on the physical level but also on emotional, mental and spiritual issues. It is very effective in reducing stress and anxiety, leaving clients free to address issues that are more important. Reiki can, in this way, allow clients to deal with their problems in a natural way that is not available in orthodox medicine.

I should make it clear at this point, that a Reiki practitioner should never suggest that a client changes the dosage or use of anything prescribed by a GP. In my own experience, it is the clients who have made this choice. I always stress to them that they should only do this in consultation with their GP. Reiki or any other Therapy is not a substitute for medical treatment from your doctor or medical health team nor should it be deemed as so. It is not an Alternative treatment; Reiki is Complementary to your Doctors medical treatment.

CONCLUSION

It is hoped that you may have gained some insight into some of the possibilities that Reiki can offer as a unique means of healing and some indication as to the way it is applied. It is interesting to note that Mikao Usui who put together the Reiki system considered it to be primarily a means of spiritual development and that its healing properties were only secondary. I feel that he was thinking of the greater need for humanity, of being healed on a spiritual level and to make ourselves closer to our perception of God, whatever that may be. On this path, the physical is considered a much lesser importance. This does not however prevent our being able to use Reiki for all levels of healing. Reiki will work irrespective of your religious beliefs or lack of beliefs. It is available to everyone and we should all be using this to heal each other on all levels.

Reiki is a complete practical healing system, which can be used on you, other people, animals or plants. Reiki can also be used on situation physical or emotional ills. It can be used to purify foods and strengthen the efficiency of medication and vitamin products. Reiki has been known to speed up the recovery rate of stoke and heart attack patients. Reiki can be used as a boost for depression suffers, or for anyone lacking in energy. It can boost the immune system for both client and practitioner, reducing the risks of colds, flu and other bugs. The truth is Reiki is a simple and effective method for opening the healing powers within you.

Reiki is for self and others. Reiki can be used just for that or it can become a path of self-discovery, spiritual awareness and development if you so wish

Masters ~ Top of the tree as it where ~ not all masters go on to teach others
